JoAnne Lewis, 95, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Henry Community Health in New Castle following a brief illness. She was born on October 9, 1930, in New Castle, a daughter of Joe and Lucy (Clapp) Hendricks.
JoAnne served as manager of Paul Harris in New Castle for over 25 years. She liked to dress nice and her hair was always on point. She and her husband, Walter enjoyed going out for dinner and dancing to Motown music, her personal favorite music genre. She was also an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed playing BINGO.
Funny, stubborn, loving and ornery are just a few words that her family used to describe her. She loved her family dearly and was proud to be a great-great grandma six times!
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Susan (Jeffrey) Sanders of Middletown, Elaine Wright of New Castle; six grandchildren, Angie Simpkins of AZ, Randy Lewis (Carrie) of AZ, Sheryl Justice of Middletown, Cindy (Brandon) Smith of Middletown, and Dustin (Kynsie) Justice of Middletown; ten great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lewis in 2002; daughter, Carol Lewis; grandson, Derek Lewis; three sisters, Phyllis Shepherd, Dorothy Archey and Debroah Hendricks.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Humane Society, 11 Midway Drive, New Castle, IN 47362. Condolences and memories of JoAnne may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com.
