It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Mae Schihl, who departed this life on October 19, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born in New York on April 25, 1938, she was taken from us at the age of 87.

A devout member of Ascension Catholic Church, Joanne's faith was her guiding light, providing her with strength and comfort throughout her life.

Joanne dedicated her life to the service of others, working as a social worker within the very church she attended. Her selfless devotion and unwavering compassion touched the lives of many in her community.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Joseph Schihl, her cherished parents, Margaret (née Miller) and Daniel White; her sister, Jane Mawhir; and her brother, Thomas White as well as her grandson, Joel.

Joanne leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory close: her son, Jonathan "Jonny" Schihl; her granddaughter, Zoe.

At this time, no formal services are scheduled. Please check back for the full obituary and service updates. Funeral services have been entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Home and Cremations, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
