JOANNE SMITH

SMITH, Joanne Of Wellesley, MA, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on December 28, 2025, with her husband by her side. Born in 1952 to Frank Barba and Elda Pensieri, Joanne grew up in Schenectady, NY. She graduated from Shalmont High School and later from Schenectady County Community College, carrying with her the strong values and close-knit family ties that shaped her early years. In 1980, Joanne married Douglas Smith and lovingly became stepmother to Todd, Scott, and Wylie. The couple made their home in Loudonville, NY, and in 1981 welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Lynn. Joanne embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, dedicating herself to creating a warm, joyful, and nurturing home. In 1984, the family settled in Wellesley, MA, where she continued to pour her energy into raising her children and supporting her family. Joanne was happiest at home-keeping an immaculate house, hosting with grace, and making everyone who walked through her door feel welcomed and cared for. In her later years, she found profound joy in being a grandmother, spending time with her grandchildren every day and delighting in their milestones, laughter, and company. She will be remembered for her boundless energy, her generosity of spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her home and family. Joanne and Douglas shared a true partnership built on love, respect, and mutual support, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Thursday, January 1, from 4-7pm, as well as on Friday, January 2, from 10-11am, followed by a Funeral Service beginning in the funeral home, at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment is private.
