Joao A Luz

Joao A. Luz, 79, of Tunkhannock, PA, beloved husband, father, and respected member of the community, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 in Philadelphia, PA. Joao embodied the essence of the American dream through hard work, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to his family.
Born in Montijo, Portugal to Joao Lourenco and Claudina Conceicao Luz, Joao immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life. He settled in the Woodside neighborhood of Queens, NY where he quickly became known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Joao worked tirelessly as a construction worker, a profession he excelled in for many years. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every project he undertook, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of work, Joao was a devoted family man. He married his loving wife Maria Luz and together they raised two children. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in providing for them and ensuring their happiness and well-being. Joao's home was always filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of his favorite dishes cooking in the kitchen.
Joao will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering strength, and his ability to make everyone around him feel cherished. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was camping or tending to his numerous home improvements. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
In his later years, Joao cherished the simple pleasures of life, from watching his grandchildren play to sharing stories with friends over a cup of coffee. His legacy of hard work, perseverance, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joao A. Luz leaves behind his devoted wife Maria, his sons Mario and Hugo, his daughter-in-law Lilian, grandchildren, Rachel, Marc, Daniel and Dylan Luz, extended family members, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 25th from 6-9PM with a prayer service at 7:30PM at the Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown (Columbia), NJ.
