Jobeth Barrett Dukes died peacefully at her home in Hammock Bay in Freeport, Florida on January 16, 2025, at the age of 74.
Mrs. Dukes was born in Thomasville, Georgia on August 23, 1950, to Joe and Freddie Barrett. Jobeth attended Dublin High School where she played in the band, was on the yearbook staff, and on the student council. Jobeth received her biology degree from Tennessee Tech and continued working towards an RN degree while teaching in Jones County and Macon. Mrs. Dukes retired from the McDonough school system in 2017 to move to Freeport, Florida with her husband, Ray Dukes, and their dogs. She continued teaching after retirement by substituting in several different high school science classes.
Jobeth was a devout Christian and credited God, her faith, and prayer warriors for allowing her to live the extra years after her cancer diagnosis.
Jobeth was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Freddie Barrett, and her niece, Lindsay Ruth Fountain Weaver.
Jobeth is survived by Raymond T. Dukes, Jr., her husband of 32 years; her two sons, Ron (Michelle) Williams of Destin, FL, and Chad (Heather) Williams of Hattiesburg, MS. Mrs. Dukes is also survived by her grandchildren, Katie (Brand) Williams Thaggard, and Matthew Williams.
Jobeth's sisters are Paulette (Fred) Hall and Susie Fountain. Scott Barrett is Jobeth's only brother. She is also survived by nine nieces, one nephew, five great-nieces, and one great-nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel on Monday, February 10, 2025, followed by a burial at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Dublin, Georgia.
