JoDe Lavine

JoDe (Misty) Lavine, 49, passed away at home on April 30, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. She was a truly remarkable and loving woman whose life goal was to share her love of learning.

She grew up in Midland, Texas raising show rabbits and exceeding at all things academic. She graduated valedictorian of the 1994 class at Midland Christian School. She went on to graduate summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. JoDe loved to learn, and continued her education at the University of Memphis where she earned both a Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering under the mentorship of Eugene Eckstein, Ph.D. It was here that she discovered her passion for teaching. This passion led her to Boston where she landed her dream job - teaching engineering and establishing the engineering program at Bunker Hill Community College. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching her students graduate and go on to live their dreams. She rose to become the Assistant Dean of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. This position allowed her to grow and learn from everyone she interacted with at the college.

Outside of BHCC, JoDe enjoyed attending musical theater with her sister, eating local seafood, reading just about anything and playing with her dogs.

JoDe is preceded in death by her father, Dale Lavine, and her mother, Peggy Lavine. She is survived by her twin sister Christy Lavine, her chosen heart sister Jennifer Tate, and her beloved aunt, Cherry Smith, as well as many relatives scattered throughout the U.S.

JoDe got to live her dream by helping others achieve theirs at BHCC. Her passion was in helping others achieve their potential. To honor this passion, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in JoDe's name to the BHCC foundation to continue supporting those pursuing their dreams.
