Joe Ann Greenfield Pace

Joe Ann Pace, a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to dedication, courage, and love, passed from this world on December 10, 2025, at her home in Smithfield, Virginia. Born on December 24, 1961, in Fairfield, Texas, she embarked on a journey that would see her break barriers and touch the lives of many.

A proud member of the United States Air Force, Joe Ann served for an impressive 30 years and attained the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Her military career was adorned with 20 major decorations, recognizing her significant contributions to air and space operations and her steadfast support of aerospace warning systems. As the first female Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, she not only demonstrated exemplary leadership but became a beacon of inspiration for women in the military.

Beyond her professional achievements, Joe Ann was devoted to her family. Her love for her grandchildren was abundantly clear, especially during the cherished moments of holiday gatherings. The memories created during these special times were a source of joy and fulfillment that brought light to her life.

Educated to the highest degree, Joe Ann earned a Doctorate of Business Administration from Capella University in 2015, building upon her foundation with a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Her academic and military accomplishments were marked by humility; although a noted high achiever in both spheres, she preferred to remain out of the spotlight, always choosing instead to uplift and support others.

Joe Ann's personality was characterized by a caring nature and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She had a unique ability to inspire those around her, striving to bring out the best in her peers in both personal and professional contexts. An avid reader with a keen interest in professional sports, she possessed a wealth of knowledge that she shared generously, further enriching the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Joe Ann leaves behind her beloved husband, Kevin Pace, and her cherished son, Donald Greenfield III. She is survived by her devoted siblings, Carolyn Bailey, Cynthia Tate, Kenneth Anthony, and Bobby Anthony, Jr., as well as her treasured grandsons, Donald Greenfield IV and Desmond Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Anthony, Sr., and her mother, Hazel Lorene Bailey.

A private memorial service to honor Joe Ann’s life and legacy will be held on December 18, 2025, at Little's Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Smithfield, Virginia.
