Interment will follow in the Damascus Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Corrigan Funeral Home from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Joe was born on November 7, 1954 in Houston to the late Herman Fritz and Gladys (Buffalo) Barringer and passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Corrigan.
Joe was a Baptist by faith and a member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends, but his most loved pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Joe loved being outside where you would usually find him relaxing and writing in his journal under the cool shade of his barn. He and his close friends, who knew him as "Joe Boy", spent countless hours laughing and talking about old times or telling tall tales while playing dominos. To his grandchildren, he was known as Paw Paw and he wore the title proudly. In the springtime, he occupied his time planting and tending to his gardens so that when harvest time came his friends and family could enjoy the fruits of his labor. He was a selfless man who enjoyed the company of a good book and was known to be spontaneous and often times unpredictable. He was a man of many talents and wasn't afraid to take on new challenges as you could tell from his portfolio of professions, but his most loved skill was that of carpentry. He loved working with his hands and, like his father, was eager to see how things worked. In his own words, Joe was a "jack of all trades, master of none". He was a great man, great friend, and a great father who will be truly missed by all of those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Gladys Barringer; his brother, Van Terrell "Terry" Barringer; and his sister, Francis Janette Frank.
Joe is survived by his former wife and best friend, Thelma Barringer, his daughter, Monica Lee Barringer and his two sons, Joseph Daniel and Jason Michael Barringer along with their spouses, John Wars, and Kirsten and Amanda Barringer; his grandchildren, Brooke Skinner, Taylor Purvis, Kira, Kenna, Jayce, Jeorjia, Lainey, Dani Jo, and June Barringer; great grandchildren, Kaimen, Aubrey, Adrian, Nathaniel, and Evelie Skinner, Cash, Marenjeau, and Kora Purvis, and Jayden Pugel; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and countless friends.
Pallbearers will be: Jerry Wagner, Gorman Morris, Charles Rucker, Troy Tyler, Dominic Delvechio, and Taylor Purvis.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Tom Courtney, Chessie Woodard, Buck Harris, Jim Brock, Tim Frank, Jason Yankie and Warren Morris.
