Joe David Baugh, age 63, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Joe was born on June 23, 1960 in Junction, Texas to loving parents, J.L. Baugh and Verree Westbrook Baugh. Joe was raised in Junction, Texas where he first found his love of football and all things related to sports. All through school, Joe was a member of the Boy Scouts, track, baseball, basketball, and football; graduating in 1978. Joe went on to attend Ranger College from 1978 to 1980; studying General Education. Joe played football for the Ranger College during the 1979 season when they won the National Championship. This was one of his accomplishments that he was most proud of. After receiving his Associates at Ranger College; Joe went on to attend Southwest Texas State. Earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in education, history, health and physical education. Dring his studies he played football during 1981 and 1982. Graduating with the class of 1989. Joe had a thirst for knowledge and went on to study at Midwestern State University earning a Master’s degree of Science in Kinesiology; graduating in 1995. During his time at Midwestern State, Joe was the assistant coach from 1988 to 1991. With Joe’s love of sports, he went on to coach at Blinn College from 1991 to 1992; coached football, track, and was the P.E. Instructor for Midwestern State from August 1993 to 1995; coached football and track at Nixon high school in Laredo, Texas from 1996 to 1998; coached football and track at Ector ISD in Odessa, Texas from 1998 to 1999; was a high school coach and teacher in Rock Springs, Texas from 1999 to 2000; was a high school coach and teacher for Somerset ISD from 2000 to 2017; was a coach and teacher for La Pryer ISD from 2020 to 2021; was a Special Education teacher and football coach in Carrizo Springs, Texas from 2021 to 2023; finishing up his career at the Fredericksburg ISD as a Special Education teacher in 2023. As you can see, Joe lived and breathed football and most anything sports related. He also loved fishing and hunting; taking his dog Seco everywhere with him. Seco was Joe’s best friend. Joe loved his family and could sit and tell them stories for hours. He had a great personality and had never met a stranger. Joe loved all the kids he taught and coached and they loved him in return. One Fredericksburg ISD teacher said that Joe was full of life and stories. Joe will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. Baugh and Verree Westbrook Baugh; brother, Jimmy Baugh; sister’s, Ginger Baugh and Patsy Baugh Johnston.  

 

Joe is survived by his sister, Cherrie Baugh Hodges; nephews, Carlton Hodges, Don Hodges and wife Francis, Jim Ed Baugh and wife Katy; nieces, Jody Baugh, Jamye Jendrusch and husband Doug, and Tambra Peace; great nieces and nephews, Kevin, Justin, Anna, Grace, Kynzie, Tia, Chy, Heath and Cody.

 

Services were held Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Kimble Funeral Home. Interment immediately followed at the Junction City Cemetery.
