D. Joe Capps, passed away on December 13, 2023, after a brief illness. Joe was a Vietnam veteran and retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after 28 years in the Marine Corps. He was a deacon and the church treasurer at Laurel Branch Baptist Church.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with friends. In the past, hunting, fishing, and rock houndling were his favorite activities.
He is survived by his wife, Loree, of 53 years; his son, Jonathan; his brothers: Fred (Evelyn) of Burnsville, Ed (Debbie) who are missionaries in Guachochi, Mexico; a sister, English Weston of Asheville; as well as seven nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, Shane, and his parents, Ramon, and Josephine Capps.
Funeral services will begin with visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held the following day on December 17, 2023, at 2:30 at Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Ed Capps, Rev. Ray Strickland and Steve Glover will be officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Allen Cemetery in the Pensacola Community in Burnsville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Laurel Branch Baptist Church, 12 Pensacola School Rd., Burnsville, NC 78214.
