Joe Michael "Mike" Colson, 73, passed away on August 23, 2025, in Boerne, Texas. Mike lived a life of adventure, laughter, and deep connection with those around him. His outgoing nature and warm spirit meant he never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by many.

Mike was born on February 12, 1952, in Marlin, Texas to the late Joe and Marie Colson. He was the third of five children. The family spent their younger years living in several different towns across Texas, ultimately settling in Houston in 1966. He spent the next 52 years there before retiring to Boerne in 2018.

A proud graduate of Spring Branch High School's Class of 1970 in Houston, Mike carried the friendships and memories from his school days throughout his life. After finishing high school, Mike eventually settled into a forty plus year career in litigation services.

Everything changed in 1982 when a chance encounter at a dance hall introduced his wife Amy into his life. They were married on January 25th, 1986. In March of 1990 they welcomed their only child, son Andrew. Over the years the family grew to include Andrew's wife Courtney, and three grandchildren, Davis Michael (7), Elle Hadley (5), and Boone Ellis (1).

Mike was an avid outdoorsman whose passion for hunting and fishing was matched only by the joy he found in sharing those experiences with family and friends. Whether fishing on Lake Livingston or spending time at his beautiful Texas Hill Country ranch, he cherished every moment spent in nature. In recent years his love for the outdoors extended to traveling across the country with Amy. Together, they visited all 50 states and made a point to stop at every major league baseball park in the United States-a testament to their shared sense of adventure and appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Family and friends were at the heart of everything Mike did. He is survived by his wife Amy Brandis Colson; their son Andrew Colson and his wife Courtney; and his greatest legacy of all- grandchildren Davis, Elle, and Boone. He also leaves behind his siblings: sisters Diane Payne and Jody (Larry) Inman, brother Steve (Leisa) Colson. Mike's extended family includes sisters-in-law Beth (Max) Stafford and Lora (Frank) Brandis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and boundless friends who were all touched by his warmth and humor.

He was preceded in death by his father Joe Ellis Colson, mother Lillian Marie Colson, sister Iris Strathdee, brothers-in-law John Payne and Alex Strathdee, nephew Joseph Colson, and nieces Laura Ameser, Zoe White, and Emily Pena Williams.

Whether gathered around a campfire or cheering from the stands at a ballpark, Mike brought people together with laughter and love. His memory will live on in the endless stories shared by those who loved him.

A Memorial Service will be held on September 27, 2025 at 10 AM at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065. Lunch reception to follow at 12 PM at Los Cucos Café, 16216 Clay Rd, Houston, TX 77084. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Texas Wildlife Association, National Park Foundation, or a conservation charity of your choosing.
