David Everett Colson, also known as Eddie, was pronounced dead on Monday August 18th,
2025. Unfortunately, due to health concerns with his lungs and symptoms of previous cancer
treatments, the cause of death is unknown at the time of writing this obituary. He was found in
his home in Lakeland and left this world at 78 years old. David was born on March 2nd, 1947 in
Fort Myers Florida by Elmer Everett Colson and Barbra Hoffman (Colson). His siblings were
Jerry, Donna, Frankie, Bobby, Aleta. As a child, David was described as adventurous, athletic,
and full of life. David was born and raised in Florida and resided briefly in Georgia and Alabama
throughout his life. He graduated 12th grade from Carol City High School in Miami Florida and
was drafted at the age of 18 into the Vietnam War, serving three years (30SEP1966 -
08OCT1969) in the Army as a Falcon Gunner. During his time in the Army David earned the
National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Vietnam
Campaign Medal, three overseas bars, sharp shooter M-14 Air Medal, and the Aircraft Crewman
Badge. After his honorable discharge from the Army, David went on to work as a mechanic at
Chevron for about ten years and is stated to have worked in construction. David was married to
Susan Hall (March 17, 1950 - 2004), also known as Nikki, and with her had two children. David
Colson (February 23, 1972 - March 29, 2018), and Nicole Colson-Storms. David also had
another child Julian (July 1981 - June 1984) with his second wife Tammy. David spoke often
about his two sons, stating that he missed them dearly and hoped he would see them in heaven.
David lost his brother Jerry on November 14th, 2018. He felt the loss of his family members
deeply as he told stories to keep their memories alive.
David is survived by his grandchildren Jacobb Storms, Jacob Cook, Carson Oliver, Joshua
Storms, and Isabella Colson. He cherished the moments he had with his great great grandchildren
Serenity Frady and Candy Storms. David also left behind his great nieces and nephews Chris and
Emily Miller, Lisa and Joel Conover, Katie and SteveRippy, Jericho and Brandon Janke, and
Emily and Matthew Thomas, Justin Colson, Jeremy Colson, and others He will be missed by
many great nephews and nieces who know and love him as Uncle Eddy by day and Santa Eddie
during christmas time. David's community of neighbors, church members, and those at the VFW
were an important part of his life and are recognized as some of his closest friends.
Davis was devoted to his regular Sunday church attendance at A Lakes Church and contributed
to many laughs around the Sunday brunch table. David is known to love history, reading, music,
and most valued his time with his friends and family. David will be known as the best storyteller
and a man with the softest heart. During his last days David worked diligently to publish his
book Two Wars on June 3rd 2024. In this book he gave us a front row seat to parts of his playful
boyhood, service to our country, love, loss, and everything in between. He showed us how to be
authentic and honest with the hurdles that life can throw at us, and pointed us towards the grace
of God that provided peace to his aching heart. He was a thoughtful and caring man that will be
missed dearly. Man, what a character.
