Michael Andrew Eddy, known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, peacefully passed away on August 19, 2025, in
Lakeland, Florida with his sisters by his side, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, innovation, and a trail of smiles. Born on January 17, 1954, in Utica, New York, Mike's journey through life was one marked by achievement, joy, and the love of those around him.
As a proud graduate of Oriskany Falls High School, where he was the Senior Class Valedictorian, Mike demonstrated early on his commitment to excellence. His academic journey continued at Clarkson University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a Minor in Computer Science, a testament to his intellect and foresight into the future's technological advancements.
Over the course of more than three decades, Mike dedicated his career to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where his software programming contributions were invaluable. His colleagues remember him not only for his professional expertise but also for his kindness and generosity.
Mike's passions extended far beyond his professional life. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a dedicated fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Lightning (secretly a Dallas Stars Fan as well). For nine consecutive years, he and his friends traveled to witness the Frozen Four, the crowning of collegiate hockey champions. The golf greens and his fellow golfers were his sanctuary, where he achieved the golfer's dream not once, but twice, with holes in one, earning the spoils of the pro shop. Bowling was another arena where Mike excelled, earning himself a perfect score of 300 Ring and the admiration of his peers.
As you can see, Mike was a man of many diverse hobbies. His fascination with model trains led him to many a train station, simply to watch in delight as the locomotives rolled by. His love for the latest tech gadgets was only matched by his passion for capturing life's moments, whether through the lens of his trusty camera or the eye of his ever-present video recorder capturing life's fleeting moments. Fireworks were another of Mike's obsessions-not just because they were shiny and loud, but because they were like his personality: generous, optimistic and colorful. This encapsulated through each day of Mike's belief that "The best is yet to be," a sentiment famously expressed by Robert Browning that Mike was always looking forward to the potential of tomorrow.
In the end though, family was the cornerstone of Michael's life. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Richard and Evelyn Eddy. His memory is cherished by his sisters, Donna Carman (Steve) and Karen Maine, and by the nieces and nephews with whom he shared a close and loving relationship. Mike's presence at family gatherings and his visits to his home state of New York to spend time with long-time friends were sources of joy for all who knew him. But I must add, Michael's friends were another cornerstone for him. In the last week of his life he stated after someone said, "What great friends you have', and he replied in that well known dry sense of humor, "I have quality over quantity". To Michael's friends, the family says, "We Love you and Thank You."
As we bid farewell to Mike, let's remember him as he would've wanted: with a smile on our faces, a joke on our lips, and a heart full of gratitude for having known a man who was truly one of a kind. Michael Andrew Eddy, you will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a beacon of positivity and kindness.
In accordance with Mike's wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, the family asks that you honor Mike's memory by living your life to the fullest. Go to a Hockey Game, enjoy a good meal with loved ones and friends, or simply take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around you. Mike would have wanted nothing less.
