It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of fond memories that we say goodbye to Joe Francis Craig of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who was called Home to the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 82. Born in Hickory, Oklahoma, on September 27, 1941, Joe was the son of Porter Melvin Craig and Beatrice (Kirby) Craig; both parents have preceded him in death. Joe is also preceded by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen Craig, his grandson, Joel Chumley, and his son-in-law, Sonny Chumley.
Joe leaves his children to cherish his memory – Debra Taylor and her husband Tommy, and Donna Chumley; his brother, Jimmy Craig and wife Charlotte, and sister Judith Beaty and her husband Phil; grandchildren Adam Taylor and wife Kayla, Ashley Nicholson and husband Brian, and bonus granddaughter Liz Chumley; great-grandchildren Broedyn McKee, Braycian McKee, Brianyn Nicholson, Bentyn Nicholson, and Nora Taylor. Joe is survived by numerous other family and friends who loved him very much.
Joe lived his life with dignity, courage, and strength. A man of God, his faith was his guiding light in this life. Throughout his life, he explored many passions and interests. Of his many hobbies, including crossword and sudoku puzzles, maintaining the prettiest yard on the block, and honing his skills as a crypto wiz, travel was probably Joe's favorite pastime. He traveled throughout all 50 states, and spent time overseas as well, making so many everlasting memories along the way. Joe was also a true cowboy at heart who loved watching (and rewatching) his favorite westerns.
Yet, of all the things in life that brought him joy, nothing made Joe happier than quality time spent with the people he loved. He was a family man to his very core – a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. As we reflect upon a life well-lived, let us remember Joe for his unwavering strength, his tenacity in all he accomplished, and the unconditional love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed.
