Joe Edward Gentry

MARSHALL – Joe E. Gentry, 78, of the Shelton Laurel Community of Marshall, NC, went home to be with the Lord while his loving family was by his side on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Joe was born on May 7, 1947 in Madison County, NC, to his late parents, Need and Nettie Cook Gentry. He was a retired maintenance worker and member of Tree of Life Church. A dedicated husband and father, he was always a gentle and calm presence and loved his family fiercely.
Joe was survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patsy Metcalf Gentry who unfortunately passed away on October 31st.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Jenny Gentry Freeman, Charlotte Gentry, and Kenya Khodayar; two sons, Kaleb Gentry (Eve) and Jerry Waites; 11 grandchildren: PJ Freeman (Samantha), Aaron Waites, Jerissa Waites, Kelisha Khodayar, Bryar Khodayar, Brandon Waites, Samantha Ashe, Ruby Ashe, Ashley Khodayar, Kristen Holzclaw, and Kelcie Holzclaw; sister, Sandra Joyce Clark (Ronald); and special nieces, Kathy Partin and Penny Glenn; and very special niece, Rosie Bustos.
A combined funeral service for Joe and Patsy will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 – 1:00 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for memorial contributions to be made to Madison Funeral Services to assist with final expenses.
