It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Bailey Glass, Jr., who left this world on August 11, 2024, in Gulfport, MS, his home for many years. Joe was born on November 7, 1934, in Houston, TX, and he lived a life full of love, laughter, and achievements.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bailey Glass and Etta Mae Knight Glass.
He is survived by his children, Ben Glass, Karen Glass, and Anne Glass Grinnell; his grandchildren, T.J. Foxx (Megan), Kristen Foxx, Kari Foxx (Eric), Bailey Rogers (Breanna) and Grace Grinnell; his great-grandchildren, Bryce, Audryna, A.J., Kyla, and Wesley; his siblings, Earl W. Glass (Doretha) and Margaret Aycock; and his fur baby, Lucy.
Joe was a man of many talents and passions. After receiving his degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1957, he embarked on a successful career as the owner-operator of Glass Motors, a business that he founded in Gulfport in 1967. He dedicated himself to the company until his well-deserved retirement in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was known for his love of golf, a sport where he truly excelled. He proudly shot his age an incredible 472 times on the golf course, a testament to his skill and passion for the game. In the 1970s, he claimed the title of club champion at Broadwater and Sunkist Golf Club, showcasing his talent and commitment to excellence. Joe's love of photography allowed him to capture memories from his world travels and cruising adventures, preserving moments that brought him joy throughout his life.
In addition to his successful career and hobbies, Joe was also a cherished member of his community and faith. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church, where he found comfort and strength in his spirituality. Joe also valued his memberships in USGA and the South MS Senior Golf Association, connecting with others who shared his interests and values.
Joe Bailey Glass, Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle nature, kind heart, and unwavering generosity touched the lives of many. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
May his legacy of hard work, passion, and kindness inspire us all to live our lives to the fullest, just as he did. Rest in peace, Joe, knowing that you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
A visitation be from 12:00~2:00 PM, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Gulfport, funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
