Joseph Granzow, age 58, of Clarion, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, surrounded by family and friends who cherished him deeply.
Joseph Michael Granzow was born on May 4, 1967 to Marvin and Sherry Granzow. He grew up on a farm west of Eldora, Iowa and always claimed Iowa as his home. Joe passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, surrounded by family and friends who cherished him deeply. Known for his adventurous spirit, he traveled extensively, living a life most only dream of-journeying across all seven continents, visiting almost all fifty states (sorry Hawaii), and exploring the far reaches of nearly every country on earth.
Though his passport was full, his greatest journeys were not measured in miles but in the countless lives he touched. A respected choir teacher and musical director, Joe inspired generations of students with his passion for music and theater. He directed countless musicals and never missed the chance to sit in the audience himself whether on Broadway, the West End or the Iowa Playhouse.
Teaching led him overseas, and his classrooms spanned several countries, each one becoming richer for his contributions. Wherever he went, he created community-whether through his unforgettable parties filled with laughter and music, or through his extraordinary baking, which brought warmth and sweetness to those around him.
Proud of his Iowa roots but beloved across the globe, Joe was a man who could put his HGTV skills to the test and make anywhere feel like home. His spirit of adventure, generosity, and joy leaves an indelible mark on family, friends, colleagues, and former students who celebrate a life lived fully, courageously, and with endless love.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered forever talked about in the stories, harmonies, and kitchens he leaves behind. He is survived by his beloved mother, Sherry Granzow, brother Sam Granzow and sister and brother-in-law Liz and Dan Peters, their children Maddy, Seth and Charlie. Joe joins his father Marvin and sister Catherine in heaven in the grace of love of Jesus.
