Joe Jones

DEACON JOE WILLIS JONES
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide
under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm 91:1
Joe was born on May 24, 1951, in Moulton, Texas. His parents were Rocellus and
Alnita Jones. He accepted Christ at a very early age, and was baptized at
Holy Temple Church of Jesus Christ, which was located in a small
community known as "Peach Creek", about nine miles from Waelder
Texas.
Joe later joined Greater New Mount Zion Baptist church
under the leadership of Reverend Jesse T Hardeman, Sr. and on
February 26, 2012, he was ordained as a Deacon. Joe served several roles
at Greater New Mount Zion to include Chairman of the Deacon Board, Driver
for GNMZ Van Ministry, Member of GNMZ Male Chorus, GNMZ Parking Ministry and
member of GNMZ Brotherhood. Joe attended public school in Sinton, Waelder, and he
later graduated from Brackenridge High School. Upon graduation from high school, he
completed two years of college at St Phillips College. In June 1971 Joe was hired by
City Public Service and loved his job Engineer for 30 years and then retired.
On May 25, 2002, Joe married his current wife, Barbara Singelton. Besides
Joe's love for Barbara, his next greatest love was "FISHING"! Joe loved to fish,
and he spent lots of time on his boat enjoying his favorite pastime. He carried a
fishing pole with him almost everywhere he went.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, his bonus son, Michael
Singleton, and his baby sister Glenda Jean Jones-Telfair. Also proceeding him in
death were two previous wives Cynthia Jones and Judith Jones. He leaves to
cherish his legacy: His wife of 21 years Barbara, Children Edward (Yolanda),
Anthony (Antoinette), David (Charnice), Annlena (Joshua). Two sisters Lady Gale Bell
(Bishop Edward Bell Sr.) and Evangelist Linda Allen. One brother Reverend Melvin
McMurry (Angie), One of his special friends that was like a brother since the age of five
years old Oscar Hernandez, eleven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and devoted friends.
