Words really can't begin describing a man like Joe Lopez. He was born on November 25, 1947 to parents, Bonfillo Lopez and Luz Lopez. Joe hailed from a small town in West Texas that no one but the people from that town have probably heard of, O'Donnell, Texas. Where he held multiple school athletic records, by the way! Even most people from West Texas don't know where O'Donnell is. He still spent most of his adult years attending the homecoming games with his brothers and son just about every chance he could.
Some people may not understand or know the values that small towns teach a person, but Joe Lopez knew. He dearly loved all of his family - they all meant the world to him. I think most that loved him could probably count on their two hands the amount of times he said he loved you. "Me, too" or "you, too" was about all the response you would get. But when he told you he loved you, you remembered and cherished it.
He loved playing softball (Go Boozers!), watching his Dallas Cowboys, and loved watching a good boxing match. He spent most of his adult years doing these things and spoiling his children, grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren. Whatever they needed, if he could provide, he gave to them. He cherished it. If there were a word to describe him, it would be "Selfless". In his last days, he spent it with those people that loved him the most; when God called him home his son and daughter were by his side holding his hand, one on the left and one on the right, helping him find comfort in going home. He was a God-fearing man; when that time comes I believe fear is a natural emotion, but his children were by his side ensuring that he knew they were with him and he had nothing to be scared of.
Joe Lopez, you are greatly, greatly missed. You will never be forgotten, and you will never not be loved. Thank you for everything you ever gave us, taught us, and did for us all. We love you.
Joe was preceded in passing by his parents, Bonfillo and Luz Lopez; sister, Nita Cardona; and sister-in-law, Judy Lopez.
He is survived by his son, Chris Lopez (Annessa); daughter, Jamie Gomez (Pete Gomez, Jr.); brothers, Fernando Lopez and Jesse Lopez; sisters, Lisa Lopez (Ken Yancey) and Lana Lopez; grandkids, Chris Alvarez (Ashley Alvarez), Mariah Alvarez (Kasey Vogel), David Lopez, Stevie Lopez, Joseph Gomez, Pete Gomez III, and Jagger Gomez; great-grandkids, Isabella Alvarez, Aleila Alvarez, Ari Alvarez, Taygen Gomez, Abby Gomez, Brayden Gomez, and Savvy Vogel; multiple nieces and nephews; and beloved lifelong friends, Frank Flores (Lindy Flores), and Ida.
