Joe Hall Riggs

Joe Riggs, 90, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith in God. He was born in 1935 in Dresden, Tennessee to Thomas and Novella Riggs.

After graduation from Freed Hardeman College in 1955 and Lipscomb in 1958, Joe embarked on his mission to preach the gospel.

During 1957 while in Nashville, he met and married his sweetheart, Shirley, who shared his life for the next 64 years until her passing.

Joe had a deep and abiding faith in God and dedicated his life to spreading the gospel. He was a devoted, lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently Lakeside Church of Christ in Orange Park. He spent 50+ years in ministry, serving congregations in North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia and participated in multiple mission trips to Latin America and the Caribbean. Although he moved numerous times during his ministry, his heart never left Tennessee. He was a Volunteer for life.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley, his parents Thomas and Novella, son Tony, brother Larry, daughter-in-law Michelle, and brother-in-law Larry Killebrew. He is survived by daughters Windi (Tom), Kelly (Don), son Walt, grandchildren Matt (Brittany), Taylor (Alexandra), Thomas, Morgan (Marco) and Faith, great grandchildren Gunnar, Ella and Eloise, his dear sister Darlene, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no words to express our deepest gratitude to his Community Hospice angels Sadie and Catherine, and to the staff of Dolphin Pointe Health Care for their compassionate care during the final years of his life.

A private service will be held in Tennessee at a later date by family.
