Joe Mack Schubert 87, of Leonardtown, Md., passed away on December 22, 2024, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall Md.
Joe Mack was born on September 23,1937, in Greenbelt, Md., to the late John and Mary Schubert.
Joe grew up in Greenbelt, spending all his summers at the Greenbelt pool. After graduating from Northwestern High School, he went to Frostburg State Teachers College and studied to be a physical education teacher. While there he changed course, and joined the Marines Corp. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, in California where he grew to love warm, beautiful weather all year round.
After military service, he came home and became an avid biker and hotrodder. In 1963 at age 25 he had a life changing accident while riding his motorcycle that left him a paraplegic. He never lost his love for life. He learned auto upholstery and spent many years between Greenbelt and California working in his trade. He also got back into driving his hot rods and swimming. After retirement, he moved to the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home where he received additional care.
He is survived by his sister, Susan McCauley, his brother-in-law Kirk McCauley, his companion Rosa Wacke and many special friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christina Hill, and his nephew Roy McCauley.
The family is remembering him privately.

Joe Mack was one of the best mentors I ever had. There was not a man that had more class than him. I just found out and am sad and happy. He is not in pain and I am sure has a golden ticket through St. Peters gate. He loved life like we all should and he was tougher than most. God bless him and God rest his soul in peace. Joe we loved you. You will be greatly missed.

Joe Mack will always be remembered by me as my father Pete´s cool friend with the cool stickers and license plate on his wheelchair. I´ll be looking for photos of him to post unless my brother beats me to it.
