Mary "Ruth" Watson was born in Blowing Rock, North Carolina on November 6, 1928 to the late Jiles Dow and Edith Bernice Tolbert.
After graduating from Kings Creek High School, she began her career as a telephone operator. Soon after she married her high school sweetheart, Harley Kenneth Watson. She loved going squirrel and deer hunting with her husband of 35 years. She loved gardening, canning and sharing with her family and friends. She loved her pot belly pig, pet groundhog, white cat, and many feral cats.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by husband, Harley Watson, son, Kenneth "Tom" Watson, sisters; Teeny Edmisten, Joyce Bolick, Lea Welch, and Ellen Shell, and brothers; Lloyd Tolbert, and Bud Tolbert.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Deborah Flick and son-in-law, David Flick, daughter-in-law, Charlynn Watson, granddaughters; Dana Hollingsworth, and Amber Clayton, grandson; Evan Watson, and Greg Watson, great-granddaughters; Coty Hollingsworth, and Olivia Clayton, sisters; Catherine Anderson, and Grace McLemore, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 1:00 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646. Inurnment will be at a later date at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
