Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven
Joe Travis Staggs, affectionately known to many as a loving husband, father, and loyal friend, peacefully passed away on May 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, joy, and cherished memories. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the celebration of life following at 1:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven. Bro. Kenny Koeneman will officiate. Interment will take place at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements.
Born on August 24, 1941, Travis lived a life centered around his deep love for his family, his country, and the simple pleasures of life. For 26 years, he shared a deep bond of love and devotion with his beloved wife, Mary Katherine Reed-Staggs, creating a lifetime of cherished memories together.
In his professional life, Travis worked as a truck driver, hauling freight and cars. He was a happy-go-lucky soul, always with a smile on his face. He had a passion for fishing, spending countless hours out on the water, where he found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. Slow to anger and even-tempered, Travis approached life with a gentle spirit and a heart full of love. He was a member of the North Frasier Baptist Church in Frasier, TN.
A proud veteran of the Korean War, Travis served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army. His bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire future generations. Joe Travis Staggs will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Travis is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine Reed-Staggs, of Hernando, MS; children, Crystal (Rick) Byrd, Ginger (Chris) Colyer, and Stephen (Valerie) Staggs; step-children, Tracey Hartness and Mark Reed; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Marise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Travis and Minnie (Miller) Staggs; and siblings, Mary Francis Trammel and Stephen Staggs.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, a cause that was close to Travis' heart. (https://shorturl.at/gjzBS)
