Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Alamosa on Jan. 8, 2026.
Joe Ramon Torrez, Jr., a man of unwavering faith and boundless love, passed away peacefully at the River Valley Inn and Rehabilitation in
Del Norte, Colorado, on January 3, 2026. He was embraced by the warmth of his memories and the love of his family. Joe was born on December 15, 1937, in the heart of the San Luis Valley in
Saguache, Colorado, to Joe Ramon Torrez, Sr., and Maria Natividad Mondragon Torrez. He was the thread that wove the fabric of his family together, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
Sustained by a lifetime of cherished relationships, Joe leaves behind an adoring family. His devoted wife, Carolyn Diana Torrez, who joined him in marriage on October 5, 1957, has been his steadfast partner, sharing in the joy of their shared journey. They built a life rich in experiences and love, setting an example for their children: Tina Richter, Thom Torrez and his wife Becky, Tim Torrez, and Tammy Oost and her husband Mark. Joe was a patriarch in the truest sense, guiding his fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild with a gentle hand and a kind heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter Jodi LeAnn Torrez, as well as his siblings Lupe Lujan, Rosabel Lovato, Lucille Alvarez, Lela Lopez, and David Torrez.
Joe's passion for mechanics was more than just a career; it was a way to connect to the world around him. His early years at Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs sparked a lifelong love affair with cars and racing, a thrill which he pursued by competing in events like the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. His work not only allowed him to provide for his family, but also to fuel his love for innovation and speed.
In his leisure, Joe sought the tranquility of nature through his love of hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. His spirituality intertwined with his love for the outdoors, often spending moments in reflection and sharing the messages of his faith as an active Jehovah's Witness. His engagement with the community extended through his involvement with the Center Kingdom Hall and, in later years, the Monte Vista Kingdom Hall.
As a social being, Joe reveled in the company of others. His home was often the setting for cookouts and gatherings, intimate coffee sit-downs, and the laughter of friends and family. His loving, kind, and faith-filled spirit was his hallmark, leaving a warm impression on those who were fortunate to cross his path.
Cremation was performed at the Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory in Alamosa. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Monte Vista Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 28 Trosper Drive in
