It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Luis Tovar, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend, who left this world on November 9, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on August 23, 1958, in Alpine, Texas to Juanita and Bonifacio Tovar Sr.
Joe Luis was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Rosemary Tovar, whom he married on July 22, 1978, in Marfa, Texas. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. He found immense joy in his church. A man of Faith he participated in bible study, and the men’s ACTS retreat. He was a Knights of Columbus member, and a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Joe Luis was a man of many passions. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, listening to music on the patio and keeping up with current news and events. He loved his country and supported conservative values and politics. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his wife, nephews, and friends. A true lover of Westerns, he could frequently be found enjoying his favorite show Gun Smoke. He was humble and kind. He was a hard worker and always provided for his family. Joe Luis loved his life and laughter. Making everyone around him laugh was a natural talent that will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Joe Luis is survived by his wife of 47 years of Hobbs N.M., his daughter, Lori Beth Boatenhamer (Steven “Boatie” Boatenhamer) of Big Spring, TX. Son’s Alex Tovar (Adrianna Torres) of Hobbs, NM., Jose Tovar Jr of Hobbs NM, grandchildren, Tamara Ticson (Nicolas Ticson) Noah Rodriguez, Izyan Tovar, Angel Huerta, Esalia Tovar, Erza Tovar, Isaiah Tovar, Valeria Nevarez, Joselyn Nevarez, his great-grandchildren, Aiden Rodriguez, and Andromeda Ticson. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Bonifacio Tovar Sr., his brother’s, Bonifacio Tovar Jr, and Danny Tovar.
Condolences and a Viewing will be held Thursday November 13th at Chapel of Hope 3321 N. Dal Paso St. Hobbs NM 1:00 pm to 7:00pm.
A rosary will be held at the Chapel of Hope 3321 N Dal Paso St Hobbs NM at 6:30pm on Thursday November 13th.
Mass at St. Helena Catholic Church 100 E. Bender at 9:00 am Friday November 14th.
Mass at Our Lady of Peace 406 S. 6th St. Alpine TX at 3:30 pm Friday November 14th (Central Time). Burial immediately following Mass at Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine TX.
