Joe Racy Wells

Mr. Joe Racy Wells entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at his daughters home in Evans, GA. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 12:00 noon on Thursday in the New Hope Baptist Church sanctuary. The celebration of life service will be at 12 noon on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Walton and Rev. Manuel Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Bolton, Larry Campbell, Gerald Lawson, John Ludwig, Jr, Bobby Rachels Jr, Jack Smalley and Randy Wurst. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Bridges, Ronnie Able, John Calloway, John Roy Clifton, Tom Sax, Stan Coley, Raymond Waters, Julius Dozier, Al Holloway, Johnny Marchant, Foster Rhodes, Brian Watts, Hunter Watts, Jay Clark, Billy Moss, Stone Shirley and members of Lincolnton High School Class of 1960. Mr. Joe Racy Wells, 82, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Joe Racy was the son of the late Will Joe and Doris Edmunds Wells. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Judith. Survivors include son Racy Wells of Greensboro, GA; daughter Rachel (Jon) Sasser of Evans, GA; three grandchildren Adam (Cassie) Sasser of Augusta, GA; Aubrey (Mil) Shedd of Washington, GA and Sydney Sasser of Evans, GA; brother Edmunds Wells of Athens, GA and sister Donna Wells of Lincolnton, GA Joe Racy was born at the old Wells Home Place on Wells Road. He was delivered there by Dr. Racy Smith-the namesake of his middle name. JR was a member of New Hope Baptist Church since childhood and lived in Lincoln County his entire life except for his college years and a few years working in South Georgia as a County Extension Agent. He graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1960 where he was a 3-sport athlete and voted Most Athletic in his class. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from the University of Georgia. After coming back to Lincoln County around 1970, Joe Racy operated a hog farm that he ran full and part-time over 15 years. He also worked for Vigortone Ag Products as a regional sales manager. Never one to be far from farm life, he spent his "retirement" years raising beef cattle. In 1963 he married Judith, his wife of 53 years until her death in 2016. They had two children whom he deeply loved but his love grew exponentially for his three grandchildren. Joe Racy was very active, present and involved in his grandchildren's lives. He especially loved following Adam's baseball career, elementary school through college, traveling all over the Southeast to watch him play. Joe Racy loved his home, family, friends and Lincoln County Red Devils football. While he was known for being highly opinionated, stubborn and sometimes a little hot-headed, he will be most remembered as being humble, honest, generous and a loyal friend.
