Joe Harry Whipple was born on El Reno Street in El Reno on January 28, 1940, to parents Nettie May and Raymond Whipple and passed away on February 19, 2024.
Joe attended El Reno Schools and graduated in 1959, during which time he played football. He also joined the National Guard and served from 1957 to 1960. After high school, Joe went on to attend Conner State College, where he played for their football team, and El Reno Jr. College, which was in the basement of the high school.
In 1960, Joe was drafted and went to Korea in 1961. It was during this first tour that he met Myong Ja. After a year, he came back to the United States where he reenlisted in the Army and in 1963, he went back to Korea to marry Myong Ja, who he said was the love of his life. Together they had their first son, Joe Ray, born in 1963 in Soeul, Korea. The family returned to the United States where they lived at Fort Hood in Texas. It was there, in 1964, they had their second son, Bob.
After Joe left the Army in 1965, he graduated from Jr. College in 1969 after which he worked for the railroad until 1970. After that, Joe worked for the Federal Prison System in El Reno and retired from FCI El Reno in 1990. During retirement, Joe found joy in fishing at Canton Lake.
Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife Myong Ja, son Bobby Whipple, sister Dorothy Whipple Riley, and brother Raymond Jr. Whipple.
Joe is survived by his son Joe Ray Whipple and wife Mosella of El Reno, grandchildren Albert Berryhill and Ashley Berryhill of El Reno, and Brooke Huber of Minco, his great grandchildren Alia, Maya, Albert Jr., Jordyn, Alexia, Kamille, and Kamden, sister-in-laws Judy Whipple of Kingfisher and Shirley Minter of Fort Worth, brother Sonny Stowe of Fort Worth, as well as many nieces, nephews, and precious friends.

Funeral services to honor Joe Whipple will be held on Monday, February 26th at 2:00 P.M. at Wilson Funeral Home.
