"Good job. Good job."
His children and grandchildren heard it from him all the time. It will be something they always remember him saying to them. Some of them even say it to each other after their Grandpa's example.
But no one deserves the accolade that he offered more than he did himself.
Joel Henry Allen, age 75, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on April 9, 2025. Born on September 14, 1949 in Live Oak, FL Joel was the beloved son of Joseph Floyd and Thelma Parker Allen. He grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from Paxon High School, class of 1967.
Joel was known for his kindness, encouragement, his love for Jesus and other people. He spent over 30 years working for Winn Dixie, starting as a bagboy and gradually working his way to up health/beauty sales buyer. He was proud of his time at Winn-Dixie and enjoyed his work immensely, but more importantly, he loved the relationships he had with his colleagues and sales representatives. After leaving Winn Dixie in 2000, he later joined Century Ambulance Company where he remained until his retirement in 2019. Although his career was important to him, his service to the Lord Jesus was even more so. For most of his adult life, he served at Normandy Park Baptist Church in various roles including Deacon, Men's Sunday School teacher, and Royal Ambassador Leader. In his free time, he loved being with family and friends, karaoke, playing golf, and fishing.
In 1970, Joel married Michaele Nutter whom he met while working in his early years at Winn-Dixie. They built a life together filled with love and had 2 Sons, Joseph "Joe" D. and Justin. Joel was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and friend to many. He had a servant's heart and could routinely be found helping others in need.
He is survived by his Wife Michaele, Children Joseph "Joe" D. Allen, Justin (Emily) Allen, Brother Ronald "Ronnie" (Jeanie) Allen, Sister Rhonda (Donald) Rumsey, Grandchildren Ethan (Ella), Julia, Asa (Abbi), Astrid, Ezra, Juniper, Dovie, Clementine, and his Great Grandchildren Henry "Hank" and Beau. He was preceded in death by his Father Joseph, Mother Thelma, and his Sister Ramona "Annette" (Jake) Hewiett.
Joel was more than just what he accomplished. Who he was is what made everyone love him. Kind, encouraging, positive, godly, generous, a man of character and integrity.
Though none of us will ever hear him say "good job" again, we can be sure that, based on the man that he was, as he entered the presence of his savior, he heard his heavenly father offer him the same affirmation.
"Good job. Good job."

It is alway difficult at times you loose a friend from your Paxon Senior High School years! Joel was a very nice person and many loved him and called him Friend! Praise the Lord for the fine person he grew up to be and was a great husband, Father and Grand Pa! So my friend Joel, I know you are with God in Heaven! Thank you for him as a friend to many of us at High School! God Bless his wife, Michaela and all his family!

I was so sorry to hear of Joel's passing. It has been many years since I last saw Joel but the Godly example he set those many years ago made a lasting impact. He walked the walk and talked the talk. Well done, Joel. You finished the race set before you. You can now rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
