Joel Wayne Fields

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the good Lord called Joel "Wayne" Fields home.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia, in Amarillo. The Rev. Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church will officiate.

Wayne was born in Amarillo on April 7, 1953, to his parents, Joe Ball and Margaret Spoden Fields. Not one to embrace traditional education, Wayne relied on his natural talent and interests, eventually becoming a skilled carpenter and craftsman. He had the ability to create, repair, and bring to life virtually anything he set his mind to.

He was a simple and hardworking man who dedicated his life to serving others in his quiet way. Wayne was a friend to everyone and was always ready to help anyone in need, whether he knew them or not. For him, no task was too large if it meant making life easier for someone else. His goofy antics brought laughter, and his encouragement, though sometimes mistaken for pushiness, was always well-intended.

True to his quiet yet straightforward form, a simple "wink" in 1981 began a love story with the beautiful Shirley that would last for the next forty-three years. The couple married in Amarillo on July 4, 1981, successfully blending their two families and creating a legacy of love and togetherness that would last for decades.

Wayne enjoyed spending time outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or riding Harleys in his younger years, he cherished the moments spent with family and friends in nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his baby sister, Debbie Jones, and a grandson, Bryan Austin Fields.

Wayne's love and memory will be carried by those he left behind including his wife Shirley; his son Joel Wayne Fields and his wife Marie all of Amarillo; his sister, Cathy DeLuca and her husband Mauro of Bullhead City, AZ; granddaughter, Jasmine Fields; and by the family, he gained when he and Shirley were married, children and grandchildren-in-love: Tammy McIntosh and her husband Lance; Jerry Wayne Dyer and his wife Mary all of Edmond, OK and Lori Cordell of Ft. Worth, Texas; and their children, Charlie Sewell, Todd Cordell and his wife Taylor, Jacob Cordell, Courtney Cordell and her wife, Mica of Arlington, TX; Cole Dyer and his wife Chelsea; by three great grandchildren-in-love, Braxton, Cooper, and Blakely; and Chloe, his faithful and furry canine companion that rarely left his side.
