Joel R. Greene, age 83, of Odum, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, after a short illness. Mr. Greene enjoyed a lifelong career as a public accountant. Joel believed in public service, so during his lifetime served as a member of the National Guard, a Jesup City Council member, and as Mayor of the City of Jesup. He also proudly served the 138TH District in the Georgia House of Representatives. During retirement, he loved hunting and fishing, but nothing could compare to the love he had for his two dogs, Taz and Blue.
He is preceded in death by a son, Joel Greene Jr., sister, Faye Chappell, and parents, Robert and Evelyn Ammons Greene.
Survivors include two sons, Ian Greene (Elaine), and Sean Greene (Ashley), three grandchildren, Ellie Greene, Will Greene, and Rob Greene; two nieces, Kathy Peters (Chris), and Kerry Smith (Steve).
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. from the Screven City Cemetery with Reverend Carl Ledbetter officiating.
