Joel Marvin Thompson Sr., 58, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, at his home with his children by his side. He was born on October 5, 1965, to parents Fred and Louise Johnson Thompson. Joel worked in construction as a pipe fitter. He enjoyed fishing, Alabama Football, antique collecting, and he was always there to lend a helping hand. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Survived by his children; Brooke (Eric) Parnell, Corey (Elizabeth) Thompson, Joel (Alyssa) Thompson Jr., Kristen (Brent) Weaver, Emma Wilson, his grandchildren; Landen Cummings, Drake Parnell, Slade Parnell, Aubrey Weaver, Kyler Weaver, BJ Weaver, Leighton Thompson. Siblings: Michael Thompson, Tony Thompson, Marsha Anderson, Sandra (Scott) Weaver, Linda (Ray) Beech, special nephew that was more like a son, Tony Criswell, also many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Braxton Thompson, Tony Criswell, Wesley Weaver, Scott Weaver, Cody Burroughs, Colton Burroughs. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Boykin, Andy Lang, Pat Anderson, Jason Cunningham, Robert Gillcrest, and Jeff Green.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with a viewing one hour prior to services. Bro. Jim O'Neal officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery following the services. Online condolences may be shared at www.lathanfuneralhome.com
