Joel Cates Winton passed away at the age of 53 on June 26, 2025 at his residence. He will be dearly missed by many. Joel was born in Tullahoma, Tn to Robert and Martha Winton on December 12,1971. Being the middle child, Joel was both a little brother and a big brother. Joel joined the Army in 1989. He served in Desert Storm with the 251st National Guard unit out of Tullahoma. He finished his military career with the 6th Calvary in Fort Hood, Tx. He would tell you that he'd seen the world, having traveled to places like Germany and Egypt but not mention that he never got off the plane. Joel brought laughter with his embellished stories. He was a gambling man. One of his favorite places was Tunica, Ms. The roulette wheel was his table of choice. The ding ding ding ding ding of slot machines spitting out winning tokens was one of his favorite sounds. His closest family and friends often called him TJ aka Tunica Joel. Joel was a plumber by trade. A skill he mastered by his father's side. He worked for his family's company B & J Plumbing and then his own company A Plumb Better Job. Joel was preceded in death by his grandparents Delbert/Dorthy Cates and Yancy/Ada Winton, his parents Robert/Martha Winton, and his brother Robert (Little Bo) Winton. Joel is survived by his wife Julie, Holly (daughter), Leanne (sister), nieces, nephews, two great nieces, several aunts and even more cousins. A private celebration of life to honor Joel will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to a Veteran charity of your choice in his name. Joel may have left this life but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
