John Landon Alison
John was born October 1, 1950 in Jacksonville, Florida to Grover Alison & Virginia Thomas Alison.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Palatka, Florida on March 24, 2023.
John is survived by his children, Melissa Alison (Jason), Chris Alison and Tomis Desaulniers.
Grandchildren Brayden, Vanessa, Madison, Eliyse, Rylan and John Paul. Johns has two older
siblings Margaret Alison Wiles and G. Thomas Alison. John left behind his service dog and faithful companion, Tess. Tess is now in the care of his prior wife of 18 years and loving friend, Cindy Alison.
John grew up in Gainesville where he lived with his mother and grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. WC
Thomas, Sr. and attended Kirby Smith Elementary. (If you ever heard his stories, you can only imagine how great his childhood was) After attending Admiral Farragut Academy and Montverde Academy he moved to Tallahassee where he attended Leon High School.
John later enlisted in the Army serving in Korea in the motorpool and as a base photographer.
After his time serving in the Army he returned to Tallahassee, Florida where he married and raised his children. During that time he worked in a number of jobs before finding his spot in pet food sales and distribution. He loved animals and subsequently purchased and managed the House of Pets in Tallahassee.
John eventually moved to St. Augustine to care for his father. His children Melissa and Chris
also moved to St. Augustine to live with John. He then raised both of his children from their teenage years to turning into admirable adults. John also became a grandfather and was there for his daughter, helping her adopt her wonderful children. John helped put his son Christopher through EMT school where Christopher now serves St. Johns County Fire rescue. John was very proud of his family.
John was a talented musician who played for over 55 years and taught music for over 35 years.
John played with several local groups, and when he did not have a gig one could find him playing at the Art Walk or busking at local breweries. His heart led him to many places and music festivals
to not only share his gift of music, but to teach music to those who desired to learn! Following his passion, John gave back by founding local chapters of Guitars for Vets in different areas of Florida, including Gainesville, Palatka and St Augustine. He organized donations of guitars for Veterans and gave weekly lessons in all three cities as musical therapy to help Veterans cope with PTSD. John's contribution to the Guitars for Vets mission will pay itself forward with the legacy of love that he demonstrated throughout his lifetime. I regret that I never met him to shake his hand, but I believe his spirit is immortal and will shine upon us as we continue the journey that he lead with such grace. My heart is with his family and friends. ~Patrick G4V
