John William Ames passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, in Dalton, MA surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 11, 1942, the son of Frederick and Wilma McGlade Ames.
He is predeceased by, his father, Frederick, mother, Wilma, and brother Frederick Ames junior He is survived by his wife, Janet Sue Ames of Dalton, MA; three daughters, Dawn Renee Christophersen and Mark Christophersen of Norwich, NY, Bonnie June Curtiss and husband Frank of Dalton, MA, and Corinna Ames Fleming and husband Brian P. Fleming of Leland, NC; son, Matthew John Ames and wife Natalia Ames of Topsham, ME; Six grandchildren, Nathan Christophersen of Norwich, NY, William F. Curtiss and Jack R. Curtiss of Dalton, MA, Cole M. Fleming, Jake M. Fleming and Sean R. Fleming, all of Leland, NC.
John was a graduate from Norwich High School in Norwich, NY. He then went to school at Broome Tech and received a degree as an Electrical Technician. He used his talents at Raymond Corporation in Greene, NY for over 37 years of his career. He was well liked and enjoyed competing in chess during lunch time.
John loved his family, friends and country deeply! His true love, Janet, whom he married on July 27, 1963, his children and grandchildren were always put first.
John was not always found in the house but rather out on the tractor, working the fields, mowing/bailing hay, or cutting down trees for firewood to keep his family safe and warm. It wasn't always work that kept him busy outside. He could often be seen giving tractor rides to his grandchildren, or even playing football or baseball with family, friends and neighbors! One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards with anyone that would play. His competitive nature was fierce. So much love and laughter were around anything he took part in. He lived well and loved hard!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Baldrick's Foundation or Tunnel to Towers
