John "John-Boy" Ashman, Division Chief, was born October 31, 1963, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly. Chief Ashman was a 40-year veteran of the Lewisville Fire Department and a Charter Member of the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association. His contributions to the department were beyond measure. Notably, he was one of the first paramedics in the Lewisville Fire Department, marking significant milestone in our history
To all who had the privilege of knowing him, Chief Ashman was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding force. He imparted his wisdom and experience not only to the members of Lewisville Fire Fighters but to everyone he encountered within the firefighting community. His passion for being a fire fighter was infectious. His extensive knowledge of the fire service was beyond any book you could read or training you could attend. It was a treasure trove of information born out of dedication and hands-on experience. Throughout his illustrious career, Chief Ashman's reach extended far beyond the department. He readily shared his wisdom and experience with many departments through training and assisting in apparatus design. His phone line was always open for anyone needing advice or just a friendly conversation. In addition to his remarkable professional wisdom, Chief Ashman was renowned for his sharp humor and his unyielding, spirited personality. He was always up for a good time and had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood, even in the direst of situations. Outside of the fire department John built a life that brought him much joy, marrying Joy, his wife of 35 years and having his 2 sons, Trevor, and Zach, who he was most proud of. Coaching baseball or shooting and fishing with his boys were some of John's favorite times. John loved his family dearly and always looked forward to traveling and making memories with Joy and the boys.
Today, as we mourn the loss of Chief John Ashman, we also celebrate his exceptional life and honor his legacy. There are better people today because of his teachings, his leadership, and his unyielding dedication to service. His influence and impact will forever be felt by so many. John is survived by his wife Joy, sons Trevor and Zach, his father Vincent Ashman, sister Chrissy (Bill) Hancock, brother Vincent Ashman, Aunt Josephine Ashman, nieces, and nephews Julia (Chuck) Castleberry, Christina Hancock, Tripp Hancock Macey Ashman and Carter Ashman, great niece Millie Rose Castleberry, and soon to be born great nephew Maverick Grant Castleberry. John is preceded in death by his mother Rosemary Ashman.
The Visitation for Division Chief John Ashman will be held on Wednesday, May 31 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lewisville First Baptist Church, 1251 Valley Ridge Blvd, Lewisville, TX 75077.
The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, June 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Lewisville First Baptist Church.
The Graveside Service will be directly after, at the Rolling Oaks Memorial Center, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, TX 75019.
Rest easy, Chief. We will continue to carry the torch that you lit so brightly, and your legacy will live on in the work that we do.
