On October 16, 2022, at 10:34 pm John Ashley Ashmead passed away peacefully. Little more than a week before we learned John had been fighting cancer for some time.
John is survived by his mother, Shirley Ann Ashmead, Sisters Leslie Felton and Ruth Ann Ashmead and brother Vaughn and predeceased by his father Joseph Ashmead and brother James Collins. Nieces and nephews, Jesse Collins, Katie Ashmead, Madison Blake, Cameron Blake and John Austin Ashmead and great nephew & niece Destin & Dia.
John was a loving son and brother and the fun uncle. John had a long career as a motorcycle road racer. The height of his career was his 1989 Daytona 200 win. John currently holds the record for most laps raced at the Daytona Motorsports Track. He was a kind soul with a wicked sense of humor, and he will be terribly missed.
