Robert Redington Ashmead

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Redington Ashmead. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Lynne Ashmead; sisters-in-law Margaret Goetz (John), Linda Simmons (Jerry), and Nancy Goerlich (Richard); and brothers-in-law Jefferson Loulan (Beth) and Frank Loulan (Richard); several godchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews.
Robert (Bob) graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's in Education and Jacksonville University with a Master's in Education. He retired in 2001 from the Duval County School System where he was a teacher at Sandalwood High School. From 1968-1975, Bob was a missionary for the American Lutheran Church and taught in Nigeria and was also a Headmaster in Papua New Guinea.
Bob was an active member of The Table-St. Johns Church, an active volunteer in the formation of the Anglican Church of North America and the formation of the Gulf Atlantic Diocese, and was active in the Kairos Prison Ministry at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, FL for 20 years. He loved the Lord Jesus and was always ready to share his faith and reach out to others who were in need.
From the age of 5, Bob collected stamps and enjoyed that hobby all his life. He and Lynne loved travel, and especially the cruises they took together. He cherished time spent with his godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He also looked forward to the monthly breakfasts and reunions with his classmates from Dupont High School, Jacksonville (Class of '57).
A memorial service in celebration of Bob's life and ministry will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Grace Anglican Church, 5804 Highway 17, Fleming Island, FL 32003
In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace Anglican Church, Fleming Island, FL (for the account of the Table-St. Johns Church) would be appreciated.
