John Richard Atterberry, 68, of Fulton, passed away on June 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Callaway County, on November 27, 1955, to the late James Rudolph and the late Anna Marie (Buckholz) Atterberry.
John was united in marriage to Peggy (Buxton) Atterberry on October 26, 1975. John admired his wife, and they spent 48 loving years together, she survives his passing.
John enlisted in the United States Army in 1974, after honorable discharge he started his career with the Missouri School for the Deaf. He worked there for 20 years before switching careers to become an insulator for nuclear power plants. He traveled around the United States to multiple power plants, for work, which allowed him to fulfill his love of traveling. John was a man of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed spending time outside fishing and hunting. He was always ready for a day of thrift store hopping and yard sale shopping, and when he could, he liked to play the slot machines at the casino. Most of all he enjoyed spending his free time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy; sons, John Atterberry II (Amber Castor), Clifford Lane Atterberry; brother James Atterberry (Nita), William Atterberry (Wanda); sisters Karen Lathrop, Deb Valdez (Tim), brothers in law, Ray Casper, Scott Belisle, along with eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and "the daughter he never had," Mindy Buxton Bagby (Trey).
John was preceded in death by his parents James and Anna; brothers, Leon Atterberry (Marcella), David Atterberry (Pauline Dungan), Lynn Atterberry; sisters, Lillian Atterberry, Mary Belisle, and brother-in-law, Mike Harper.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Maupin Funeral Home with Father Medina officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
