John Bernard Banahan, 72 of Caldwell, N.J. passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Newark, Jack as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was the devoted son of the late John J. and Dorothy (née McElroy) Banahan. He was raised in Newark before moving to Belleville, and eventually making his home in the close-knit community of Caldwell. Jack devoted more than 30 years of his life to public service as a Fireman with the Newark Fire Department. He was also a proud member of the Sprinkler Fitters Union in New Jersey. A true outdoorsman at heart, John found peace in crabbing along the shores of Cape May.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dennis Masucci. He is survived by his loving sisters, Arlene Troynousky and her husband Russell, and Jeanne Masucci. He also leaves behind his cherished niece and nephews, John, Peter, Dennis, and Kerry, as well as his treasured great-nieces and great-nephew, Peyton, Gemma, and James.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Catholic Prayer Service to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove.
