Carole J. Howell

Carole Jean Howell aka Carole Jean Ernstrom, age 76, of Morris Plains, NJ passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025.Carole was born to Gerald J. Vuolo and Caroline C. Vuolo in Newark, NJ.

Carole taught French and Spanish at Frelinghuysen and Randolph Middle Schools, later retiring from Jefferson Township Intermediate School. She was a longtime parishioner at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was Secretary to the Morris Plains Board of Health for 40 years. She was very involved in her local community- serving as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Denville, Denville Senior Citizens, Morris Plains Book Club, volunteering at Interfaith Food Pantry, and was a member of Arlington Lodge 62 of the Vasa order of America.

She lost her first husband, Frank Howell after 33 years of marriage. She married Errol Ernstrom on April 10, 2021. She was a devoted mother to Christine Klass and Brian Howell and his wife, Molly Howell. She was a beloved grandmother to 3 grandchildren: Faith,

Connor, and Brayden. She is also survived by her siblings: Robert Vuolo and his wife, Nancy; Richard Vuolo and his wife Robyn; and Marianne Jones and her husband, Jeff.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole's name may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Denville, the Interfaith Food Pantry, and the Carole and Frank Howell Memorial World Language Scholarship (Checks would be made out to Jefferson Township High School) reference the scholarship in the memo section.

Visitation will be held at Par Troy Funeral home on Thursday August 21, 2025, from 5pm-8pm. 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ. (973) 887-3235. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel in Cedar Knolls on Friday, August 22 at 9:30am. 75 Ridgedale Ave, Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
