John Barham Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patton Funeral Home LLC - Cleveland on Aug. 24, 2022.
Rev. John Barham was born on June 28, 1954 to the late Geneva and J. B. Barham in Henderson. TN. He professed Christ at a very young age; and as Rev Barham would say in his gifted anointed writing style he allowed the world and its fool gold to pull him into a life of destruction. God captured John s heart in a cold dark cell, through a down and out time, the Holy Spirit drew him to the Cross of Jesus.
After some time of biblical instruction and Godly mentoring; he followed the love of his life, Janice Barham to Cleveland, TN, where they were wedded on November 17, 2001. Both served in leadership at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America in Cleveland, TN. Rev Barham served in many capacities at St. James CPC. He was the vacation bible school superintendent for several years, ordained as an Elder and then as Associate Pastor of Prison and Jail Ministry, substitute teacher of Sunday school, taught Wednesday Night Bible Study, and teleconference study during COVID that continued until the time of his death which included participants from Jackson, TN. He also served on the Hiwassee Presbytery Executive Board as a member at large and on the hospitality committee. He served with various prayer ministries and missionary groups in the community such as; College Hill Ministers Association, Cleveland Net Ministries, Power House Ministries, Norvel Hayes Bible College Soup Kitchen, Morgan County Prison Ministry, 100 Black Men Association, Walker State Prison Ministry, and was known to randomly pray for people in the community.
One of Rev Barham s favorite song was I know it was the Blood . Through his teaching, he reminded us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. His preaching reminded us to press into our faith to become Godly overcomers. His life testified of God s everlasting prescence through the good and the bad. Rev Barham authored several books, four of which we mention below:
LITTLE JOE
THE GHOST OF RIVER CREEK BOTTOM
CRACK BABY
GRANDMAMMA S SALLY QUILT
