John Barnowski

John "Barney" Barnowski age 88 passed away Friday January 19, 2024. Beloved husband of Anita for 67 years. Loving father of Michelle Fry (John deceased), John "Jack" (deceased), Mary Louis (Joseph) and Jane Reed. Brother of the late Stanley, George, Daniel and Frances Melnik. Son of the late John and Johanna. Dear Grandfather of Jonathan, Anthony, Dan, Rebecca, Tim, Justin, Johanna and Daniel. Great Grandfather of Peter, Missy and Jonah. ALL SERVICES TUESDAY. Barney retired as Director of Transportation from Sherwin Williams in 1998. He went on to
become a charter boat captain on Lake Erie, providing memorable fishing trips for 16 years. He
was a founding member of the Fleet Maintenance Council of Northeast Ohio offering valuable
guidance and education to service managers in the trucking industry. In his early years, Barney
enjoyed motorcycles, roller skating, swimming, playing football for the city, softball,
handball and racquetball. He was an accomplished race car driver, displaying the checkered
flag on many occasions. Barney was a very social person with an abundance of friends, and
was considered a pool shark at the neighborhood taverns. In recent years, he enjoyed a
quiet life at home with his devoted wife.
