John "Jack" Raymond Baseheart, 89, husband of Deborah Baseheart, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on January 19, 1936 to the late Martha McCauley and Joseph Casper Baseheart. Jack was a Professor of Communications, Internship Originator and Director, Director of Communication Graduate Students, all at The University of Kentucky, having served 29 years with the college. Jack was also a veteran of the United States Army and was Army captain Medic Corps in Panama.
Jack had many interests. He was an instrument rated private pilot. a marathon runner, beekeeper, hunter and fisherman. He also volunteered for an elementary school chess club, city football referee, and Lexington Public Library ESL program for Spanish speakers.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Tracy (Bob) Carl; sons, Darrell (Trang) Baseheart, Bryan Baseheart; brother, George (Sandy) Baseheart, Kinderhook, NY; sister in law, Barbara Baseheart, Tallahassee, FL; brother-in-law, Michael (Angie) Daugherty; grandchildren, Kyler (Piper) Carl, Matt Baseheart, Lucy Baseheart; and great grandson, Paul Carl.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ed Baseheart
To honor the life of Jack, a celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 12pm officiated by Father Paul Prabell,
at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, followed by a gathering of family and friends until 2pm.
