John Clayton Bateman, a resident of St. Amant, LA born August 31, 1940, went to be with our heavenly Father on February 15, 2026. He was a graduate of St. Amant High School, Class of 1960. He enjoyed watching sports, being outside and listening to swamp pop music. He retired from Ascension Parish Public Works in 2003 as a bulldozer operator. He retired from the Local 406.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Virginia Mayers Bateman. They had two children; Blane Bateman and Belinda Bateman Ficklin (Emory). Four grandkids; Ty Bateman, JJ Shepherd (Alan), Emory Ficklin (Shelley), & Brandi Ficklin. 15 great grandkids & 5 great great grandkids. 4 brothers, Jerry, Alvin, Roger & Troy Bateman. Many family & friends.
John is proceeded in death by his parents John & Thelma Virginia Denham Bateman and two sisters Wanda Mae & baby Latisha.
Pallbearers- Emory Ficklin Jr., Emory Ficklin III, Ty Bateman, Braden Bateman, Thad Denham & Mike Savoy.
Honorary Pallbearers- Emory Ficklin IV, Bryson Ficklin, Caine Bateman & Brantley Ficklin.
We would like to give a special thank you to the cardiologist department at OLOL Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Heart Association.
