John Bean
John F. Bean, age 92, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at Pleasant View Healthcare surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home with the Rev. John Walker officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Saturday. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park with military honors by the Ottawa American Legion Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Dave Wallace, R.C. Vandervort, Gary Tyndall, Benjamin Crane, Seth Tyndall and Nicholas Vandervort.
John was born May 23, 1931 in Danville, Illinois, to Walter and Debbie (Pearson) Bean. He married Jacqueline Sue Myers March 4, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church, Danville, Illinois. She preceded in death April 8, 2024. Surviving are his children, Ralph Bean of Ottawa, Nancy (Dave) Wallace of Marshall, IL and Sue (R.C.) Vandervort of Ottawa; grandchildren, Benjamin Tyler Crane, Seth Garrett Thomas Tyndall and Nicholas John Vandervort; and his son-in-law, Gary Tyndall. John was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Julie Crane Tyndall and sisters Helen Goodall and Ruth DuBois.
John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. A man grounded in his faith, he dearly loved reading his Bible. John retired as a payroll clerk at the Danville VA Hospital. He belonged to the Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge in Danville. Leisure time would find John fishing, bowling, working in his yard or putting together picture puzzles. He dearly loved his family and the time spent with them. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

On my first day of working there, He came up to me and said " Hello my name is John, it´s nice to meet you, my wife Jackie is here too. I replied it is nice to meet you thank you for such a wonderful welcoming. " I said they should pay you as a greeter." We laughed They were wonderful couple. We had a lot of great conversations. And the occasional looking for H/A. Sending the family and wonderful memories. Robin.
