John W. "Jack" Best

John "Jack" W. Best, 83, of Hyannis, formerly of Dedham, passed away peacefully on October 11, with his family by his side. Loving husband of 62 years to Maryann (Emery) Best of Hyannis.
Born in Chicopee Falls, MA, son of the late John W. and Grace (Lockhart) Best, Jack was a graduate of St. John's Prep. and Northeastern University. He also served in the Army National Guard. Jack's work career included many years with the U.S. Postal Service in Hyannis and the owner of J.W. Best Pest Control until his retirement.
He and his family loved to travel around the world and he visited Our Lady of Lourdes in France. Jack enjoyed swimming at the Cape beaches during the summer months, horse racing, visiting Saratoga Race Course, watching his grandson's stock car racing but especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. He was a longtime member of St. Francis and Our Lady of Victory Churches and also travelled on several missions to Honduras. He was active member of the Elks Club, Birthright of Cape Cod, The Irish Children's Program, Cursillo, ECHO and the Barnstable County REC Program.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, John M. Best of Orlando, FL, Kerry Best of Sandwich, and Alison Best of Hingham, his sister Mary Collins of Medway, and his grandchildren, Alexandra Flood of Steamboat Springs, CO, Ryan Flood of Sandwich, and Zachary & Abigail Griffin, both of Hingham.
Jack always prioritized the needs of others before his own. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be in our hearts forever.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 4-7 PM, in the Chapman Funeral & Cremations, John-Lawrence Chapel, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16 at 11 AM in Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main Street, Centerville, MA. Burial will follow in St Francis Xavier Cemetery.
