Funeral services for John Dorsey Blackwell, Jr., age 92 of Columbia, will be held 11:00AM, Monday, March 4, 2024, from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Earnest officiating. The Stamper Sisters including Jeanie Duchesne, Janice Brannon and Joyce Adams will minister in song. Interment will immediately follow in the Bethany Cemetery at Hebert. The Blackwell Family will receive visitors on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Blackwell was born on January 23, 1932, to the union of his parents, John Dorsey Blackwell, Sr. and Beulah Whittington, and he passed  from this life on March 1, 2024, at the Southern Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. To all those who knew him he will be truly missed.

He spent his working years offshore in the Oil and Gas Industry. He was a cowboy at heart, always loving to work with and be around horses. He was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Blackwell and Margaret Blackwell; his son, Steve Thomas Blackwell and his daughter, Phyllis Ann Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell was a "Man among Men" and to all who knew and loved him he will never be forgotten.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Shirley Jean Wall (Norwood) of Downsville and Barbie B. Shipp of Downsville; a daughter -in-law, Doris Blackwell of Stonewall, LA; three sisters: Joy Etier (Carrie) Columbia, Mackie Duchesne of Columbia and Almie Kelly also of Columbia; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers including Bobby Blackwell, Clint Jemerson, Baron Blackwell, Steven Taylor, Dallas Singleton  and Cole Barker. Honorary pallbearers include Seth and Carter Crawford.
