Obituary of John A. Bonanno

John A. Bonanno of South Salem, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 10, 2025.

He was 76 years old.

John was born on December 1, 1948 in Yonkers, New York to Anthony and Josephine Bonanno.

John graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to earn a Marketing Degree at Iona College. He served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard of New York from 1970-1975.

John worked for many years as an auto adjuster for Allstate and retired in 2006.

In 2002, John married the love of his life, Nancy T. Black in Ridgefield, CT. John and Nancy enjoyed their retirement traveling in the United States and Europe with two great friends. Italy was a favorite destination. They also loved celebrating holidays, spending time with family and welcoming grandchildren.

John will be remembered for his quick smile and welcoming hugs. He could outmatch anyone's knowledge on James Bond trivia or Yankee baseball. He loved spinning tales of alien facts and figures for his grandchildren who eagerly waited for his next "personal" mysterious story.

John is the brother to Thomas Bonanno of Fishkill, NY and Geraldine Stevenson of Scottsdale, AZ. John is survived by his nephews Mark Bonanno (Diana) of Ridgefield, CT, John Bonanno (Alexandra) of Crestwood, NY, Thomas Bonanno (Stacy) of Clinton Corners, NY, and Vincent Bonanno (Birgit) of Hyde Park, NY. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews. John is survived by his step-children, Heather (Paul) of Brookfield, CT, and Jason (Kyle) of Trumbull, CT, along with his three cherished step-grandchildren: Abby and Lauren Onorato of Brookfield, CT, and Charles Black of Trumbull, CT. He was also the father of the late Dana Lauren Bonanno, from his earlier marriage to Donna O'Connor. He is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Elizabeth Bonanno and brother-in-law Robert Stevenson.

The family will receive visitors and a memorial service will be held from 2-6 pm on August 16, 2025 at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.
