John Durham Boney, Jr., age 83, of Clinton, SC, died July 17, 2025, in Clinton, SC. John was born on January 27, 1942, in Columbia, SC. He graduated from Allendale-Fairfax High School and the University of South Carolina. He married Sarah Anne Barber in 1964, and together they raised four children and enjoyed 58 years of marriage prior to Sarah's passing in May of 2023.

John and Sarah lived most of their life together in Barnwell, SC, where they founded and operated Boney Motor Company. They were actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Barnwell and the community. John was a member of the South Carolina Army Air National Guard, having served from February 1960 to October 1991, where he flew helicopters as well as fixed-wing aircraft for the military. John retired from the military at the rank of colonel. After retiring, John continued to fly medevac helicopters for Providence Hospital and Richland Memorial Hospital systems in Columbia, SC until 2003.

John was particularly proud of his family. He loved working together with his family raising and caring for horses and cattle on the family farm in Barnwell, and in engaging in numerous family construction projects together over the years, including the renovation and building of several houses as their family grew.

John is survived by his son, Durham (Sandi) Boney of Columbia, SC, daughter Tiffaney (Jerre) Threatt of Clinton, SC, son Walter (Amy) Boney of Barnwell, SC, and grandchildren Anna Grace Boney, Matthew Boney, Brooks Threatt, Kaitey Threatt, Mason Boney and Noland Boney. He is also survived by his sister, Florence Scarborough of Flat Rock, NC, and his late wife Sarah's sisters, Sandra Pherigo of West Columbia, Portia (Bill) Gunnells of Columbia, Monnene (Larry) Sorrell of Columbia, Beth (George) Estes of Columbia, brother Thomas (Pam) Barber of Newberry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah B. Boney, his daughter, Helen Louise Boney, his parents, John D. Boney, Sr., and Dorothy Rawl Boney, as well as his sister, Nancy Dorothy Lee.

John's family would like to thank the staff of The Clinton Presbyterian Community who provided love, care, and support for John during the past two years. He was blessed to have found a home with many supportive friends.

The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Barnwell on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., with a funeral service to follow in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Barnwell. A military burial will be at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery in Barnwell (adjacent to the Barnwell County Airport) immediately following the funeral service.

"Boney" was such a great man as well as an awesome helicopter pilot. I have always cherished the time that I spent flying with "Boney" at Careforce at Richland Memorial from 1998 until 2003. Thanks to "Boney's" family for sharing "Boney" with me.
