John Borne Obituary

Published by Thibodaux Funeral Home Inc on Nov. 4, 2014.
John Stanley Borne, a native of St. James, LA and a resident of Marrero and later Chackbay, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. He was the loving husband of the late Linda Robinson Borne and the father of Ruth Autin (Richard), Nell Perkins, and Robert "Bobby" Borne (Madge). Visitation will be on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor (Chackbay, LA) from 8:00 AM till funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by five grandchildren, Jude (Kristy) and Jared Autin (Rochelle); Brooke Lillie (Michael); Darin and Scott Borne (Robin); and nine great grand children: Tristan and Abby Autin; Tyler and Brady Autin; Todd and Olivia Lillie; Clara Jane Borne; Millicent Belle Borne; Ann Copeland (step great grandchild). He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne Nicholas and John Louis Borne; by his sister, Sylvia Borne Brock, his brother, Richard Lawrence Borne. He proudly served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He worked in the oil fields as a young man and later at Avondale Shipyard as a rigging foreman. After he retired he planted and maintained a very large vegetable garden and he supplied his family and friends with fresh vegetables for many years. He served as Grand Marshal of the Chackbay Gumbo Festival in 1995. He exercised and said his rosary daily for the majority of his retired life; he read two or three books a week; he looked forward to LSU and the Saints games on TV. He accepted each stage of his life and told his children that "I played the hand that I was dealt." From the time he was sixteen years old he valued his independence and lived independently at his home in Chackbay until five weeks before his death. He would have been ninety four years old on November 12. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lighthouse of LA, 123 State Street, New Orleans, LA 70118 or Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department, 100 Highway 304, Thibodaux, LA 70301. Thibodaux Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

We are so sorry for your loss during this difficult time. Jude, your grandpa was a special man, and I feel fortunate to have known him personally and to have had him in Tristan and Abby's lives. He was a strong, positive influence to all. Mrs. Ruth- I will be praying and thinking of you and all of the family that you find peace in knowing that your dad lived a long, full life and is at peace now...I will always remember him and your mom as two very special people near and dear to my heart.
Love and prayers,
Cheryl
